Digitimes, the premier news source in usual bullshit rumors, has a new one today that actually seems a legitimate, kind of. They are reporting that there will be a $100 price cut on the Xbox 360 Premium bundle, bringing the price down to $300 so that they can later bundle the HD DVD player with the Xbox 360 for $400 and still have a solid competitive price on the PS3.
Microsoft, to prepare for the price cut, has negotiated reduced production costs for the Xbox 360 with Taiwan-based manufacturing partners, stated the sources. The manufacturers estimate that the total production cost can be reduced by 15-20% due to diminishing costs for most components along with increasing production scales and decreasing defect rates, the sources pointed out.
For once, that rumor actually makes sense. But I’m a little pissed that I dropped four hundos on my premium without an HD DVD player. I need to listen to my mother more: “Good always comes to those who wait.”
Oh, and Microsoft Taiwan denied the report, but that was a given.

Outpost has this DVD recorder for a mere $50. It can playback from DVD+R/+RW/-R/-RW, VCD, SVCD, CD, MP3 and JPEG. And it can record to DVD+R/RW. This could be a nice pickup for those out there who haven’t taken the plunge into DVR with a TiVo or the like but are still interested in recording programming in something other than VHS.

Good thing DEMO is so F’n boring, I can still post.
Nokia dropped word of their N95 multimedia computer today. (We still call em cellphones, but don’t tell Nokia that or they’ll bop us on the head…again)
The smartphone has a 5 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss lens, which they say can take dvd-like video clips. Does that mean 848 by 480? I don’t know. it also has a 2.6-inch QVGA screen, and runs on the well supported Symbian 60 OS. It also has HSDPA and EDGE cellular data. Oh, it has nice Flickr integration with the photos you take. (click and upload)
And it’s got this “2-way slider” thingamabob that kicks out both a numeric keypad and media control keys. Sounds like…a butterfly…pretty, but sounds like a complicated setup from a company I used to call the Apple of cellphone-dom.
Out in 2007, somewhere in the world, for close to a grand, unsubsidized. Jump to see the pretty photos of the butterfly slider in action!

Well, Canon just did it, so why shouldn’t Epson. This is the P-5000—it is a combination portable photo viewer, photo dumper and general PMP device. It has a 4-inch display with a 640 x 480 resolution to display video and pictures from the integrated 80GB hard drive or from CF, SD or SDHC portable media.
The P-5000 stands out a bit more from the competition because it supports a larger variety of video types including DivX and H.264. Also Epson is known for having damn sexy LCDs capable of displaying a wide spectrum of colors and grayscale, which is pretty essential for photographers out there. Epson also announced the P-5000’s little brother, the P-3000. The only thing that differs with this portable media device is the 40GB hard drive. No word on pricing or availability.

You may have a pearly white interior in your Mercedes CLS, so you obviously need a pearly white computer to go in it. Luckily one smart car customizer, Mattes Interieurtechnik (awesome name), realized that one company does make a pearly white computer.
Mattes plopped an iMac into the backseat of this CLS. He wasn’t very happy with the color matching, so he even wrapped the iMac in leather to match the interior a little better. There is a slight problem, though. He installed it directly in front of the vents. That would be fine during the summer because the air conditioning could also cool the iMac, but during the winter … can you say overheating?
